A shoal of fish, feeling the water ripple, wriggle their body and swim away, perhaps without the awareness that a piece of stone plops several meters away. So do most of the citizens around the world. Probably having dissimilar responses to a certain societal case, but people might be senseless to the “invisible hands” behind, the origin of the executive measures, which is the policy. Some people argue that students nowadays are more interested in politics than in the past, which exactly expresses where I firmly stand because politics, as a combination of both science and humanity, usually requires certain foundation to be better understood.

First, the more diverse and deep education lays sounder base for the present-day students to learn about politics. In presence, it could be fairly common that a high school student loses its mind holding a list which elaborates on what are the options for its major in the university. The reason in part lies on the development and diversification of disciplines in modern education, which might be unthinkable even back to thirty years ago. Various science and humanity subjects, like economy, sociology or psychology, these “terms” might be strange to the past majority, but have become daily subjects in real, and even entered some of the primary or middle schools in their basic forms. Therefore, students nowadays are far more fitted in terms of knowledge from various fields to prepare themselves to the politics, which are more than complicated since not only certain basic scientific knowledge is required to comprehend the policy or decision in that specific area, also the humanities are helpful to know about the reaction of the public since interaction between such policy and the public, no matter positive or negative, will issue varying influences. Therefore, students nowadays are more likely to have interests on the complex politics in terms of their educational background.

Second, the more developed means of communication brings closer contact between students and political news. The devising or discussing of the policies and the national affairs are usually confined in circles of the politicians and the channels by which students gain information about politics are through media and news, the progress and functions of which at present are also life-changing. People from the past watching reports on TV which has only a handful of programs could hardly envision that news of different fields all over the world is easily accessible through a screen in palm size by just a few clicks and scrolls. As a result, students in modern time could readily learn about the political affairs, and even filter out their preferred reports by search engine. Hence, more available coverage on politics is more likely to trigger the interest of the students today.

To conclude, I agree that students nowadays are more interested in politics than in the past since they are in broader horizons, regarding both knowledge background and source of information. (486words)

technological determinism
