How would you like to learn about other cultures if you cannot travel there? Would you like to read books and watch films, or form a chatting group with local people?

1.Comparing to chatting with local people, I believe I will gain more from books and films about other cultures for two reasons. First, books and films are usually more profound and accurate in presenting a place’s culture as they are written and filmed by professionals in related fields. Although local people lives there, their understanding of culture could be shallower. Also, the content of books and films are more organized and systematic. Comparing to the pieces of information I will be able to get from long conversations, I think it is better to learn from books and films instead.

2.Comparing to reading books and watching films, I found it more interesting to gain knowledge of a certain culture by forming a group chat with local people and talk with them for two reasons. First, since books and films require a relatively long time to write or make, some of the things it mentioned could be outdated by the time I read or watch them. Chatting with local people will allow me to gain the most up to date information about the culture. Secondly, chatting with people is a lot more relaxing than sitting down and reading a book all over. I would be able to get a lot of information in much shorter time.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Class assignments that are handed in after the deadline should always receive lower grades.

1. I agree that late assignments should receive lower grades for two reasons. First, it would be unfair for those students who tried their best to finish and hand in the assignments on time if late assignments can receive the same grade. Since time requirement is also part of the requirement of the assignment, not being able to hand in on time can be considered not fulfilling part of the requirements and it is reasonable for them to receive lower grades. Also, if late assignment can receive the same grade, then the deadline would be completely meaningless.

2. I disagree that late assignments should always receive lower grades. Sometime there are conditions that are beyond control or expectation that a student cannot be able to hand in assignments on time. Maybe they were sick at the time or there was serious lag with the internet. Or maybe their computer shut down somehow and they lost all their paper before saving it. I agree that late assignment should receive penalty, yet it is not reasonable to always give lower grades. This should be decided on a case by case basis so that all students are treated fairly.

Removing Dams,Explaining the Collapse of Early Bronze Age Societies,这种周日重复周六考题的情况以前也出现过,考生需要留意了。

Explaining the Collapse of Early Bronze Age Societies这篇文章的句子简化题。

Explaining the Collapse of Early Bronze Age Societies

With this fundamental stress on the agricultural sector of society brought on by environmental degradation, we must question the responses of the elite managers to the reduced yields of subsistence crops, the resulting decrease in revenues, and the diminishing popular support, since they seem to have taken no action in the technical, social, or economic realms to improve the situation.

选项

A. The extreme stress on the agricultural system has raised questions about whether the elite managers could have improved the situation even if they had taken action.

B. Many problems arose due to the stress placed on the agricultural sector of society by environmental degradation, but the elite managers seem to have taken no substantial action to improve the situation.

C. The severe stress caused by environmental degradation led to reduced yields of subsistence crops, decreased revenues, and a decline in popular support for the elite managers.

D. The extreme stress on the agricultural sector prompted the elite managers to take technological, social, and economic action to improve the situation.
