Some people believe that the media (for example, television, radio, newspaper, or internet news sources) are less concerned nowadays with presenting accurate facts than they were in the past; these people argue that the media today often present incorrect information about news stories and that this causes problems for the public.

Do you agree or disagree with this view? Why or why not?

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

1. News stories

Agree:有危害

With more people living in a fast-paced lifestyle, attempting to rush through the work on hands, such debatable tendency has inevitably extended into the field of media. While journalists and editors spending less time on each news story, it seems that the accuracy and even the validity of the stories are under dubious certainty. Some people argue that the media nowadays are less concerned with presenting accurate facts which has caused problems for the public. I strongly adhere to the statement since news of ambiguous views could be easily spotted and they also could be potentially hazardous for readers.

Firstly, the news of incorrect suggestions could harm people’s health. There are spates of news providing tips to stay healthy, however, few of them are well-reasoned and convincing partly because of our people’s limited scope of knowledge about human ourselves, and that is why the immoral editors could attempt to stay in spotlight by twisting their viewpoints. For example, there are some news touting the great health benefits like strengthening bones, growing cartilage and skin whitening of drinking a glass of milk every day before going to bed. Putting aside the query about the reliability of these claims, it is commonsensical that eating and drinking before sleeping could cause obesity and be harmful to the digestion system. Therefore, were readers susceptible to these claims which are blatantly branded as professional, the alleged benefits will not be guaranteed and even some health problems might be induced.

In addition, the news of inaccurate news could mislead people to invest in the questionable area. There could be some unethical merchants who drived by monetary gain submit articles for publication which blow up the prosperity of their jobs by intentionally omitting some potential disadvantages, such inaccurate articles are approved for publication because on the one hand they are carefully camouflaged by the data and diction looking like valuable experience, and on the other hand the lax editors are not bothered to check the accuracy of the information. Therefore, were the readers with spare money coaxed and put the investment in practice, the bubble to grab wealth will certainly burst into nothing some day and the innocent victims will be helpless to recover the loss.

Moreover, news of inaccurate news could persuade people into irredeemable decisions. Unlike the spare money whose loss might not devastate people’s lives, there could be real threats if the downside is neglected. For example, were civilians in the countryside convinced regarding the ease of electricity shortage after building a new power plant but with its huge environmental negative effects excluded and pass their vote of confidence, their idyllic lifestyle will be torn down to a frazzle as soon as the power plant starts to function. Although more people might live better, the lives of the plain civilians nearby will be sacrificed.

To conclude, I agree with the argument owing to the multiple adverse effects of the inaccurate and even incorrect news. (490words)
