The world has witnessed the tremendous changes in the past 50 years in many aspects. Issues regarding nurturing children have never failed to arouse public attention as well as controversy. For parents, it seems that raising children has always been a challenge. However, compared to the situation fifty years ago, I firmly believe that it is easier for parents to raise children today.
To begin with, nowadays, children can receive education much easier and the quality of education is better. There are increasing number of the schools all around the world, which gives children more opportunities to study at school. In the fifty years ago, the number of schools was not enough for various reasons, for example, the lack of awareness of education or the political reasons. Furthermore, children can get high-quality education today because of abundant resources of teaching staffs and advanced teaching equipment. With more and more people having received higher education, many people are willing to devote themselves to the cause of education. Teachers can convey academic knowledge to children, help them cultivate beneficial habits and even ensure the safety of children when they study at school. In this way, the burdens of parents can be relatively alleviated. Besides, nowadays, teachers can convey knowledge more vividly by using different types of teaching facilities, such as the multimedia computer and laboratory equipment, which were not available fifty years ago. If teachers can impart knowledge better, children will absorb ideas better. As a result, from the standpoint of education, parents can be freer from worries now.
In addition, the prosperity of the economy improves the living standard of the family. It is acknowledged that people living in today’s society make more money and have higher living standards, causing children are able to obtain nutritionally balanced diets and high level of medical treatments. Most families not only can afford the basic food but also nutritious food. Also, when children are sick, parents will not give up because there is enough treatment fee. However, many families were not capable of affording the expenses of nurturing kids fifty years ago. Back then, children were kept on short common goods and even in dangers of death from starvation. Hardly would children keep balanced nutrition. Because of this, many children got sick, whereas, their parents were unable to afford treatment fee, leading to their death eventually. This vicious circle at presence happens relatively less than 50 years ago. Therefore, I think that it is easier to raise children now than it was 50 years ago.
Admittedly, with the development of Internet and the popularity of computer, most children today are able to use computer skillfully. Then this derives a problem that some children are addicted to online games, which have negative influences on both physical and psychological health. However, if parents can limit the time that children use computers strictly, this problem will not happen. Besides, it is undeniable that Internet bring lots of benefits for both children and parents. For example, children can chat with their parents online and parents can search for some solutions on Internet when they have difficulties in raising children. Thus, I hold the opinion that the advantages of the Internet outweigh the disadvantages of it.
In a word, parents living in the modern society raise children easier than those in 50 years ago because of the high-quality education and the enhancement of living standard. (566 words)
